Final Story Pitch: Greenville Heritage Main Street Fridays
About the Story
This 1.5 minute long story will be about Greenville Heritage Main Street Fridays, an annual spring/summer event held every Friday evening from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Greenville, SC. The event is described, via the Greenville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau website: “Wind up the work week listening to the best in music entertainment performed by local, regional and national talent. This 28-week free music series with a variety of music styles runs every Friday and provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy downtown Greenville on our award-winning Main Street. A children’s activity area add to the family fun.”
Why This Story Matters
This story matters because Greenville’s award-winning downtown started undergoing transformation into what it has now become in only the mid-90s and early 2000s. Downtown Greenville used to be a deserted wasteland and nobody, but those with shady intentions, would be caught down there past nightfall. Now, downtown is the jewel in Greenville’s crown.
Type of Story
I would characterize this story as a local, community-interest ‘featurette’.
Except for promotional blurbs, I haven’t found any in-depth stories written about Greenville Heritage Main Street Fridays. However, though not the scope of this story, there has been much written – locally and nationally – about downtown Greenville’s redevelopment and revitalization, which has made this annual event possible and well-attended.
